Hearing Loss and Hearing Aids

If you have had your exam and have been
recommended a hearing aid, chances are
probably very good that you can receive benefit
from a hearing aid.  The majority of people that
obtain hearing aids now do have a sensorineural loss.  Many years ago, it was felt that sensorineural loss could not be helped, but this has been proven

false.  A person does have to have some potential to work with.  For example, if the hearing loss is a total hearing loss there may be a chance that nothing could help.  If in addition to the hearing loss the speech understanding ability is reduced.  The longer a loss is left without help, the greater chance this will happen.  This could reduce the ability to understand speech with the hearing aids.
